BALLOONERISM
Balloonerism is Miller’s seventh album and second released posthumously. It has long been a subject of speculation for his fans, with individual songs and rumored track lists circulating for the better part of a decade. Recorded in 2013 during the sessions that produced Faces, on Balloonerism Miller delves deeper into that loping, loungey hybrid style. These fourteen songs drift between bouncy hip-hop and warm, hip-deep neo-soul, connected by a woozy, smeared ambiance and Miller’s empathetic observational style. There are also moments of spaced-out experimentation. Miller was creating freely, pushing himself into new territories alongside close friend and collaborator Thundercat, who is credited throughout the album.

officially in 2025, it dives deeper into the woozy ambiance introduced on
Faces, shaped with close friend and collaborator Stephen ‘Thundercat’
Bruner, credited throughout the album. Balloonerism is lyrically heavy but
never too far from a punchline, drifting between bouncy hip-hop, warm neo-
soul, and some of Mac’s most esoteric work, like the 12-minute closer
“Tomorrow Will Never Know.” As Mac matured as an artist, he seemed to
grow more comfortable with ambiguity, drawn to questions that might not
have answers.
